Cosmetic Dermatology
What it is:
Cosmetic mole removal is the removal of a benign (non-cancerous) mole for aesthetic reasons or irritation from clothing, shaving, or friction.
How it’s done:
After evaluation by a medical provider to ensure the mole appears benign, it may be removed using:
• Surgical shave removal
• Excision with sutures
• Cautery (when appropriate)
What to expect:
• Performed in-office under local anesthesia
• Quick procedure with minimal downtime
• Small scar may remain (scar appearance varies by skin type and location)
• Pathology review if medically indicated
Important Note:
Cosmetic mole removal is considered elective and is typically not covered by insurance unless medically necessary.
